The Video Platform Provides The Community Power to Decrease AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a new feature that enables them to cut down on the amount of AI-made videos appearing in their streams. This move comes as the service disclosed that it presently contains over 1 billion AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a widespread launch. This development coincides with a rise in content created by AI, driven by emerging video-generation tools.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that approximately a tenth of the quickest rising content creators on a popular video site primarily display AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this content is deemed mass-produced AI material, a phrase for substandard, factory-style content that is typically illogical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users like content made with AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to informative clips, and we aim to offer the community the option to see more or less of that, based on their own choices,” said a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

The service disclosed that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its service tagged as made with AI. Collectively, in excess of 100 m videos are uploaded to the service every day, making AI-generated material a limited portion of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Viewers will be able to decrease or raise the level of artificial media they see by accessing the topic control feature in the application and choosing “AI-generated content”. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the filter cover news, fashion, beauty, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

Its rules mandate content makers to label convincing AI-made content, and it prohibits dangerous deepfakes of celebrities or crisis events. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is not labeled can be removed under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the app will now apply an AI-generated label to content created with its built-in AI features, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This measure is aimed to help prevent users from trying to bypass the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is furthermore launching a $2 million AI literacy fund for specialists and organizations to produce informative material about ethical AI use. This initiative will assist educational bodies focused on training computer science.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has justified its moderation strategy, during discussion over plans to lay off numerous review team members in Britain. It is set to cut hundreds of positions in its user protection team in the UK capital, with trade unions and online safety experts raising concerns that people are being substituted by automated systems.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would still have a role, but automated tools can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content prior to it gets reviewed by staff. The company stated a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content seen by safety staff over the last 12 months due to reliance on its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to combine staff and AI to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with unsafe media as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
