UK light heavyweight Joshua Buatsi earned a win yet underwhelming debut to life under fresh promotional backing with a points victory over Parker in Manchester.

The Olympic bronze medallist's activity level seemingly secured him a split decision in a tight 10-round bout at the boxing arena.

But the challenger had his moments, delivering effective clean blows in a fight where the styles never quite clicked, with frequent clinching spoiling the fight.

The scoring judges scored it 96-94 for to the winner, with the final judge a even score.

"It wasn't my best performance but what do champions do? They prevail," Buatsi stated in the ring as he was faced disapproval from the audience.

The British fighter got back to winning after his initial pro loss - an epic battle with his previous opponent in February - to earn a 20th career victory.

Various analysts thought Parker, 31, should have been awarded the decision but the contender suffered the second loss of his 28-bout professional journey.

The fighter's advancement has stalled in the past few years through promotional disputes and long spells of inactivity.

Earlier forecast as the rising talent of British boxing, he now stands trying to fulfil that early promise - possibly in what seems like a ultimate opportunity - under new promotional backing.

He opened tentatively, with the two boxers ready to be aggressive in a tentative early stages.

The challenger, whose only previous defeat came at super middleweight against his former opponent in 2022 after breaking his hand mid-fight, was competing in only his second appearance at the higher weight class.

By the halfway stage, Parker had kept it close, causing problems for the favorite, who utilized a tight guard to edge the more effective rounds.

The spectators' acceptance decreased amid regular grabbing, with Parker falling to the floor multiple occasions during grappling.

The underdog finished the stronger, but several stanzas were difficult to score. However, former world champion Carl Frampton - working with the broadcast network - had it strongly leaning for the challenger, scoring for Buatsi just only one stanza.

The victor progresses, but with the likes of heavy hitter David Benavidez, and Russian star Bivol dominating the weight class, the journey to titles - based on this performance - still seems difficult.

In the co-main event, Arthur beat Bradley Rea by split-decision in a terrific all-Manchester contest to secure the European light-heavyweight title.

The arena grew hushed for a profoundly moving homage ahead of the contest as 10 bells rang in honor of Manchester's own Ricky Hatton, who died 46 years old in recently.

It was the initial significant broadcast fight night in the urban center since Hatton's death. As the last bell ended, the stillness transitioned to a chant of "only one Ricky Hatton".

The action within the ring matched the feeling. The eventual winner was sent to the canvas by a powerful punch flush on the face in the initial stage, standing uncertainly to his footing on the count of eight.

But the red-colored shorts of Arthur soon advanced again. Across the ring, Rea - in rival City blue - was marked up quickly, significant bruising forming under his face as the pair exchanged powerful shots.

The challenger, twenty-seven, delivered effective strikes but Arthur, thirty-four, matched the intensity with powerful upward punches as the action hardly diminished over the full distance.

Arthur barely secured the decision with official scores of 114-114, narrow lead and clearer margin, but each competitor were determined and brave, everything their inspiration the legend represented.
